DisAbuse project showcased at the UNESCO Health and Education Symposium ,Thursday November 26th
The UNESCO Health and Education Symposium was held online Thursday November 26th
In the aftermath of the International Conference on Bullying & People with Disabilities, in March 2018, that APPACDM Lisboa was involved in the Disabuse project as a local partner, ISCTE-IUL organized a training session for the Trainers (7 technicians from APPACDM Lisboa) who would undertake the piloting of the DisAbuse modules from the training course on February 27, 2019.
This first session was prior to the beginning of the Course, and its purpose was to present the learning goals, contents and organization of the Course, as well as the Trainers Manual. In the middle of the Course, a second training session for Trainers was held (March, 27), with the objective of evaluating the first 3 sessions of the Course and, according to this evaluation, planning the next 3 sessions, as well as introducing the Trainers in the Lego Serious Play methodology.
The Course "Let's Prevent Bullying!" was attended by 20 participants (19 people with disabilities and one support worker) and took place in ISCTE-IUL, during 6 sessions, from the 13th March to 17th April 2019.
During the sessions, several strategies and group dynamics were used, for example: small group work, large group discussion, role-play, video and slide viewing, site visits and the Lego Serious Play methodology.
At the end of each session, the homework was presented and explained and it was with the homework that the next session was started.
From the 1st to the 6th session there was an increase in trust between all the elements (trainers-participants and participant-participants), which allowed a greater complexity of the activities, the exploration of the contents and a sharing of real situations. The participants' involvement, dedication and enthusiasm was spectacular!
The sessions ran from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and then the whole group had lunch at the ISCTE-IUL canteen. This also allowed greater socialization among all and integration into a higher education institution.
On 8th May, it was time to celebrate: the Ceremony of the Diploma Course was held! The opening session was attended by Humberto Santos (President of the Directing Council of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, IP), Mário Matos (President of the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of the Mentally Disadvantaged Citizen, APPACDM-Lisbon), Filipe Reis (Director of the School of Social and Human Sciences, ISCTE-IUL), Carla Moleiro (Director of CIS-IUL) and Susana Fonseca (ISCTE-IUL, CIS-IUL).
Each participant presented orally, towards the whole audience, his/her poster "Now I’m able to ..."! Then they received the Diplomas of the Course: it was a moment of great joy and emotion for all!
